78% of Kyrgyztelecom shares sold for US $40m
BISHKEK - As part of a new wave of privatisation under way in Kyrgzystan, Kyrgyz officials announced February 5 that 78 percent of Kyrgyztelecom shares were sold.
The winning bidder is a Kazakh-Cypriot-Kyrgyz consortium of four companies.
The package of shares raised nearly US $40m. The buyers promised to invest US $200m over the next four years. In addition, the government pledged to maximise telephone service in the country's most remote regions to guarantee access to state TV channels.
